The Digital Media Cookbook is on the Fediverse! You can follow us by searching for our username in a Mastodon or other type of Fediverse client – @digitalmediacookbook
We are not “on” Mastodon as we are not running a Mastodon server on this site/domain. We are using the ActivityPub WordPress plugin which gives us the ability to turn the Digital Media Cookbook blog into an account you can follow just like you would any other Mastodon, Pixelfed (photos), PeerTube (video), or Friendica account. Those are all types of Fediverse servers, but the way.
Now if you’re a Fediverse veteran, you may have heard about all of those services. If not, the idea behind it all is that you use a protocol, not a platform. Examples of platforms would be X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, etc. You have to have an account on a given platform to follow another user. By using a protocol, known as ActivityPub, you can use any service that supports it and follow anyone you like, however you like.
We don’t want this post to be a Fediverse tutorial. There are many good ones available already. It’s still early days and things have generally gotten easier to join the Fediverse. If you would like more information, here are a few links to help you:
- What is Mastodon? What is the Fediverse?

See you on the Fediverse!
