MPEG Streamclip is a simple video player, editor, and video converter for Windows or Mac computers. You can open most video formats, set basic “In” and “Out” points, and them trim the video to the length that you desire. Once you have the trimmed video, you can save to numerous formats. MPEG Streamclip supports MPEG video (MPEG4, MPEG2), various QuickTime formats (including h.264), as well as other “transport stream” video files such as VOB files from DVDs.
If you want to edit video from unencrypted DVDs, you will need to purchase a separate QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X to use with MPEG Streamclip. The program can then convert the VOB files from a DVD to a codec like ProRes for editing in Final Cut Pro. MPEG Streamclip is also great for making quick trims of videos downloaded from YouTube, or for preparing images for creating animated GIFs from a video source.
